The Communities

MentalHealth-Community is the main hub for a group of mental health oriented community sites. The community sites focus on a variety of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar-disorder, borderline personality disorder, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), among others.

There are two primary functions of the online communities

  1. Education! Read about a disorder, how it is diagnosed, how it is treated, browse a list of resources.
  2. Join an Online Community! Communicate with like-minded individuals who are sharing your struggles.

The communities allow people to do the following:

  • Become a member
  • Create and customize an online profile
  • Upload and share pictures
  • Create and join groups
  • Make friends and add them to a friend list
  • Participate in Message Board discussions
  • Send messages to individuals

The communities are free for all and will ALWAYS remain so.

The Girl Behind the Curtain

As I stated in my first post on this site My life has been preparing me for the creation of this site and the other Mental Health Communities that are now in the works.”

I was diagnosed with Depression, PTSD, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder when I was 14 years old. I starting doing “cyber schooling” when I was 16 as I was unable to make it to class regularly. That is when I started making web sites into all hours of the night. My first web site was about Teen Depression and most of the interactivity took place on the guestbook.

As fate so has it I ended up going to school and becoming a web designer. After college, one of my closest friends ended his life. This as well as my own struggles, and the people I have met along the way are main motivator for creating the community sites.

This is for you doof ;)
